The story behind The Source
Atilla and James: A coincidence brought us two together in December 2024. Atilla performed at the Winterklassik festival in Bautzen, Germany. James shot a documentary about the festival. The moment we met it was clear we had to create something. Driving back home from Bautzen, with the festival’s beautiful music still ringing in his ears, James came up with a script for a short film. A script that would highlight something about Atilla that makes him instantly likeable: his humour.
An indispensable part of our production team is the wonderful composer Sarvenaz Safari who contributed her haunting piece «Kaleidoskop I for solo viola» which she dedicated to Atilla.
Just as the water flows in our short film, the ideas kept coming and 9 months after Atilla’s and James’ initial meeting, the team was ready to shoot The Source. We would like to thank Reinhard Köthe who’s brilliant acting was a joy to film. Also, this low-budget, independent production, wouldn’t have been half as much fun to make without Angelina Dalinger, our production assistant.
