Alexej Gerassimez: «BODIX» Percussion Quartet

Some cultures have the myth that humanity was created from clay. In BODIX the musicians become the instruments, their hands create and shape the sound. In German the word «Ton» can either mean «sound» or «clay». This linguistic peculiarity inspired me to visually merge clay and body percussion. But the music video BODIX isn’t only a play on words – shape, movement, light and shadow are interwoven with the rhythm of the music. And all the while everything revolves, just like the potter’s wheel, around the essence of human nature.

Description in German: In einigen Kulturen gibt es den Mythos der Mensch sei aus Ton, aus Erde, geformt worden. In BODIX werden die Musiker selbst zum Instrument, ihre Hände erzeugen und formen den Ton. Den Filmemacher James Chan-A-Sue inspirierte die sprachliche Analogie Tonerde und Body Percussion visuell zusammenzuführen. Das Musikvideo BODIX geht jedoch nicht nur spielerisch mit der deutschen Sprache um – Form, Bewegung, Licht und Schatten sind eng mit dem Rhythmus der Musik verwoben und dabei dreht sich, wie auf der Scheibe der Töpferin, alles um den Menschen.
